GARAGE-ROCK GIRLS: HINDS & HONEYBLOOD

Is your iTunes library lacking a little girl-power? These two all-girl garage-rock acts are not to be missed in 2015.

Hinds (fka Deers)

Madrid four-piece, Hinds—who were very recently forced to change their name from Deers following some legal trouble with a Montreal band—have not even released a debut album yet, but the young band has already been receiving a ton of buzz. With only two official singles under their belt, the garage rock outfit have supported the likes of multiple industry heavyweights, including The Vaccines, The Libertines, and Black Lips. Not much has been said about their debut album, other than the fact that it can (hopefully) be expected to drop later this year. Until then, the girls are touring festivals all over Europe and the UK this summer where they will surely only gain momentum.

Honeyblood

Since releasing their 2014 self-titled debut album, the Edinburgh-Glasgow duo, have had a pretty exciting year, earning some praise from BBC Radio 1, Mojo and NME for their irresistibly catchy, fuzzed-out 90s indie-pop track and gaining some exposure with a slew of SXSW gigs and a spot opening for Belle & Sebastian on tour. Honeyblood have had a bit of a lineup change since the release of their debut with new drummer Cat Myers, who replaced Shona MacVicar behind the kit last September. Though this is obviously a drastic change (considering the band is only a duo after all), the ‘new’ Honeyblood’s recently released, Record Store Day EP is extremely promising. Sharper and more honed than ever before, Honeyblood has us eagerly awaiting what they will do next.
