Over the last couple of years, the EDM scene has watched one of its sub-genres forcefully push its way to the forefront. Tropical House or just ‘TropHouse’ has given Deep House producers a summery twist for their original tracks and remixes. Often characterized by jazzy saxophones and island-sounding synths, these 5 producers have the music to make you feel like you’re on vacation and sipping a mojito by the beach.

Widely considered to be the inventor of trop house, Australian Thomas Jack has said that tropical house music began as somewhat of a joke. Telling, “The genre “Tropical House” was kind of a joke at the start. One of my mates told me to label my music under a genre. I loved summer vibes and the beach so I thought tropical house would be a cool name.”

With hours and hours of trop house to listen to on his soundcloud page, check out ‘The Final Speech’ featuring Adrian Symes for a taste of what the genres grandfather has to offer.

I featured Kygo a few weeks ago in an article for ‘5 Rising EDM Producers to Watch in 2015’ and provided you with his original ‘Stole the Show’ single featuring Parson James. Kygo broke into the industry with his trop-infused remixes so here’s one of his more popular tracks; a remix of Ed Sheeran and Passenger’s acoustic performance cover/mash-up of ‘No Diggity’ and ‘Thrift Shop’ originally performed by Black Street and Macklemore respectively. Yeah, it’s confusing, but it’s also fantastic.

Don’t let the Hawaiian name fool you. Thomas Beaufoy is an English DJ and producer who’s basically the EDM Jimmy Buffett, based on his website. His remix of Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Wear Sunscreen’ shot to the top of charts and he has maintained elevation with his take on Avicii’s ‘The Nights’, and more recently, the revitalized ‘Silhouettes’, also by Avicii. With a couple more tracks like these, Mau Kilaeua could be the Kygo of 2015.

19-year-old Norwegian trop house sensation Bearson has collaborated with Mark Johns for a brand-new track called ‘Imposter’. Bearson, or Jakob Bjørn-Hansen, has been sounding alarms in the blogosphere a lot lately and his latest doesn’t miss the mark. His soundcloud showcases remixes from artists ranging from James Bay to Tove Styrke and if he’s done all this before 20, I think it’s fair to expect plenty from Bearson in the future.

“Matoma has become a staple of the tropical house genre.” –

Matoma’s website features some hilarious self-praise, but he might very well be worthy of it. Tom Stræte Lagergren, also from Norway, emerged from obscurity by generating 10 million plays for his various remixes in a span of 5 months. How many artists would consider, let alone pull off a remix of a Will Smith song from 1997. He made it brand new again. Check the song out here and keep an eye out for Matoma at festivals this summer in the US and Canada.
