At his first full set as a festival headliner (after his Forecastle Festival performance was cut short by an electrical storm last week) in Oro-Medonte for WayHome Festival, Sam Smith teased the release of a new track with friends Disclosure before his acoustic performance of their smash hit, “Latch”. When “Latch” was released in October 2012, Smith had yet to release any solo music and Disclosure had not yet broken into the spotlight. It slowly climbed the charts, and eventually became one of the biggest hits of 2014. Smith credits the track for skyrocketing their careers and now the electronic duo have teamed up with the Brit singer for another collaboration.
The track, and accompanying video, for “Omen” dropped yesterday. It will appear on Disclosure’s upcoming release, ‘Caracal’, and follows “Bang That” and “Holding On”, which feature jazz musician Gregory Porter. The video for “Omen” is already nearly at 2 million views and steadily climbing. Whether or not it will reach the same level of success as its predecessor is difficult to tell, but considering both Smith and Disclosure are in the spotlight now more than ever, it just might.
