HOW I’LL REMEMBER SCOTT WEILAND

I’m a 90s kid so when I hear that a legend from that era passed away, I’m flooded with memories of a surreal time for rock & roll. I still remember the day when a friend pulled me into an empty classroom to listen to “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. It was my first real grunge/rock experience and it was the beginning of the most consistent wave of amazing music I have, and probably will, ever experience.

Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and of course Stone Temple Pilots, fronted by the late Scott Weiland. These were the Princes of Rock & Roll and together they changed the face of music forever. These artists were not a trend. They are a part of our history.

The music Weiland created with STP was true art and it had a profound effect on the world. I think about how awkward people are and how much it takes for the average person to get excited. Weiland had normal, everyday people flailing and shamelessly expressing love and excitement for music, helping them live for 3-4 minutes at a time. I know he helped me fall in love with rock & roll and I will always be thankful to him for that.

Yes his death was drug related and yes he had his fair share of personal issues but his art is what we should remember him by and that’s exactly what I’m going to leave you with.

Below are a few of my favorite STP songs as well as a tribute to Weiland from the 3 remaining members:

Interstate Love Song – Stone Temple Pilots

Vasoline – Stone Temple Pilots

Big Bang Baby – Stone Temple Pilots

Lady Picture Show – Stone Temple Pilots

Tribute from Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo & Eric Kretz
