It isn’t often that I come across a really good loud, heavy distorted, garage rock project. When I hear about a rock band these days, it’s usually light rock at best and it often has a lot of synthetic sounds within its soundscape. Low Cut High Tops is a part of the faint pulse that beats inside of the rock music industry, creating unapologetic noise with guitar, bass, drums and plenty of dirt.

It should come as no surprise that this project is based out of Seattle, the birthplace of grunge/garage rock. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – The Seattle Rock Movement, back in the 90s, was the most exciting time for music in my lifetime. Timeless songs from bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and strong female groups like Hole were ruling the airwaves, driving teenagers insane with fuzzy excitement. It was pure energy everywhere and it was all about the music instead of abbreviated words and catch phrases created for a drugged out suburbia to flop around to at nightclubs.

Will we ever see another era of great rock music? I don’t know but David Burns, the mastermind behind Low Cut High Tops, gives me hope. Not only is he braving his small niche market but he’s doing so all by himself! Burns does all of his own writing, producing, mixing and he even creates his own music videos from his bedroom.

Give his buzzed about single “Red Lipstick” a listen (below) and be sure to follow him on Soundcloud and Facebook for more of his music and future updates.
