The RBC Bluesfest is starting tomorrow and running until July 17th in Ottawa. There are some impressive acts lined up for this event spanning across all generations. Names such as: Billy Idol, John Fogerty, Duran Duran, The Monkees, Red Hot Chili Peppers, City and Colour, Nelly, Future, Half Moon Run, The Zolas, Sam Hunt, Alessia Cara, Yukon Blonde, The Lumineers and so many more. With this perfect marriage of old school and new school, fans of all ages should be able to find artists they like, playing on one of the five stages set up across the Lebreton Flats.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a band to look out for following the success of their single “Dark Necessities” and, with the recent release of their newest album “The Getaway”, we can expect them to tear up the stage with crowd favourites as well as new music. Along with the California rockers, another band coming off the success of their recently released album are The Lumineers with “Cleopatra”, which dropped in early April. The indie band’s single “Ophelia” has been receiving air time all over the world but that’s not the only notable song on the album, the rest is just as good.
It’s easy to be excited for names you know but, what is arguably, one of the best parts of festivals is discovering the not so well known artists. The July 14th lineup is an awesome opportunity to uncover some new Canadian punk-rock with bands like PUP and Rebelle warming up the stage for AWOLNATION. The opening bands are never usually the focus of festival-goers but that should change moving forward. A festival is an experience, don’t just go for the bands you know, go for everything in between because you just might come out of there with some new favourites.
If you’re in the Ottawa area and have nothing to do this weekend or the next I encourage you to head out to the nations capital and enjoy some quality music.
