July 8, 2016

On Wednesday night I was graced with the presence of Panic! At The Disco and Weezer. The two bands performed at the Molsen Canadian Amphitheatre for their Summer Tour 2016. At first I thought these two bands were an odd pairing for a concert, but they complemented each other perfectly, and brought out a very diverse crowd.

Panic! went on first, and opened with “Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time”, a song from their latest album, “Death of a Bachelor”.

Brendan Urie was dynamic and maintained a high amount of energy throughout the entire set. He sang his heart out, danced, and even did backflips. The girls went crazy for him, particularly when he took his shirt off. The audience especially went wild when they performed a cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. It seemed as if every single person in the audience was singing along.

Weezer went on next, and once again, the crowd went crazy. They played a mix of old and new songs, but it was clear that the audience favoured the old songs much more. The audience went crazy for songs such as “Hash Pipe”, “Beverly Hills”, and “Say it Ain’t So”. Weezer was amazing, and listening to them live was pure bliss.

One thing that both bands had in common was that they both made mention of the LGBTQ community during their set. Brendan Urie spoke about loving each other and ourselves regardless of sexual orientation. During Weezer’s performance of “Thank God For Girls”, a video montage of famous women was playing in the background. Pictures of iconic women such as Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, and Caitlyn Jenner were displayed in this montage. The video closed with a picture of the pride flag.

Overall, I found both bands to be amazing. Both bands were energetic and had the audience engaged throughout the entire set. If the opportunity arises, I would without a doubt see either of these bands again.
