The song “Karma” is a part of Brandyn Burnette’s new EP “State I’m In” which was released on April 6th, 2016 on his Soundcloud. He describes his music as being of the genre “progressive soul” which regularly includes pop hooks, and impressive vocals. Karma by Brandyn Burnette has elements of pop, r&b, and soul which is characteristic to Burnette’s general musical style. Drums are a predominant feature in the track, along with the strength of Burnette’s powerful voice.
The music video which accompanies the track is quite thought provoking as it encourages one to continue to question and think critically about the world that we presently live in. The story follows several possible narratives all involving a day in the life of a young black male. The very real existence of police brutality, racial profiling, and discrimination are all topics that surface throughout the video. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” by Martin Luther King is the opening quote to the video. Urging the audience to do more than just listen, but also to think.
