Abby Polhill’s song “This Love” introduces us to an artist that is both delicate and tough. The song feels dark, as if the Atlanta-based singer has a bit of an edge, but her voice is soft and promises her love that they will stay together.
Quite clearly picking up the pieces of a damaged relationship, the songs argues for the power of love, and the refusal to give up on the other person. Fusing together electronic inspired pop and a darker shade of R&B, producer Kyle Schlienger helps complete Polhill’s story. While singing to her beloved, Abby plays upon vocal styles that are prevalent in today’s pop world. She has the darker, often smooth sound of Banks, and summons some of the moodier tracks from New Zealand duo, Broods.
