Brooklyn-based rapper Kid Cudi has recently released the video for his new track called “Surfin’”, which is the latest track off of his upcoming LP, ‘Passion, Pain & Demon Slaying’. The track features Grammy-winning producer, songwriter and artist, Pharrell Williams. Except we never hear any vocals from Pharrell, some say he’s appearing on the album version while others speculate it’s just his production. The video includes many of the rapper’s famous friends such as A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith, Willow Smith, producer Hit-Boy and more.
Kid Cudi has been dealing with some pretty serious issues in his life recently; this video was filmed before he checked himself into a rehab facility to deal with suicidal urges and depression. Despite this, the video and song still have a fun and positive vibe. It is very upbeat, and makes you want to get out of your seat and dance, but if you listen to the lyrics, you’ll hear something a little bit less fun that alludes to some problems Kid Cudi may have been dealing with before he checked himself into rehab.
“The industry is so full of shit/Welcome y’all to the enema
Nah man, no subliminal/Cause they insecure, they know who they are”
Nevertheless, ‘Surfin’ is a fun song with a great beat, and plenty of star power.
