If you haven’t already heard of the unique and genre-transcending indie band Lucius after their first two LP’s, now is a good time to start. After the release of Wildewoman, and this years’ Good Grief, the band had a couple of other songs leftover that they wanted to share with their fans. Ergo, Pulling Teeth. The two-track EP features the already released “The Punisher,” and the title track, which you can preview now. The EP will be available to streaming services on November 25th.
Lucius, besides for moulding some incredible pop hooks and big sounds, is unlike anything you’ve witnessed in a while. The band is fronted by not one amazing voice, but two: Jesse Wolfe and Holly Laessig. Both talents having been crafted by the famous Berkelee school of music, the two singers are known to perform in unison, sharing the “front woman” spotlight both in their music and onstage. Jesse and Holly dress alike in their often changing and creative costumes.
Both “The Punisher” and “Pulling Teeth” boast these vocal talents, and their ability to write a catchy pop tune. Such is ironic, based on the nature of “Pulling Teeth” which the band wrote about having writers’ block. In doing so, they were able to defeat it. While the two songs on the EP were written around the same time as the material for Good Grief, they mention that although they didn’t quite fit with the album, they still wanted to release the music.
