While we have yet to see the full length LP that The Chainsmokers often hint at over social media, the DJ duo released a second EP entitled Collage. Collage features many of their previously released singles, as well as a new track, “Setting Fires.” Like many of the other songs that feature well known pop artists like Halsey and Phoebe Ryan, “Setting Fires,” includes the electro-pop duo XYLØ.
The single is a nice blend on both duo’s sound, but fits the overall expectations of The Chainsmokers. “Setting Fires” describes a fragile and broken love story, much like the rest of the EP’s tracks. It includes a fairly simple chorus, and it perhaps most interesting at the dropping point. Not quite as big as “Don’t Let Me Down,” or “Closer,” the song may serve as a good opener for “Collage.” It introduces listeners to what they can expect from the rest of the music: heartbreak and a good beat.
