Alexandra Savior, known collaborator of Alex Turner, released a video for her single “Mystery Girl” last week. This release is in advance of her much-anticipated album “Belladonna of Sadness” which is set to come out April 7, 2017 via Columbia Records. “Mystery Girl” is co-written by Savior herself and Turner, who is the lead singer, guitarist and principal songwriter of the Arctic Monkeys. The Portland native has caught the attention of many in the industry, including acclaimed songwriter T. Bone Burnett. Burnett is the Music Director of “True Detective,”and put Savior’s song “Risk” in the second season of the show. Along with her song-writing talent, the 21-year-old also writes, directs and edits her own music videos.
“Mystery Girl” is a smooth, jazzy and psychedelic exploration of indie music. The song is combined with a confusing and eerie music video, that uses harsh colours and long, wide shots of Savior standing and staring into the abyss to make the audience feel uncomfortable. Reverb and harmony are used well in the song to add to the unease. Savior has a lovely voice that has a similar sound to Feist, Florence + The Machine, and Charlotte Day Wilson. Produced by James Ford (Haim, Florence + The Machine), “Mystery Girl” will hopefully create excitement for the impending album release. In the meantime, Alexandra Savior will be on tour across the West Coast of the US with Daughter for a few dates.
