Noah Cyrus released the music video for her debut single “Make Me (Cry)” ft. Labrinth on November 22nd. Since then, the video has quickly reached almost 8 million views and secured a spot on the Globe Viral 50 hits on Spotify.
I knew it was only a matter of time, before we would be hearing music from Miley Cyrus’ (not so) little sister. The Cyrus siblings have all dabbled in the music scene, so I was very excited to hear music from Noah.
Featuring a complete new sound (compared to her singing debut in 2009 with Frankie Jonas for Disney’s Ponyo) and look, “Make Me (Cry)” shows a more sophisticated, dark and edgy side to Noah.
It is a ballad speaking of toxic love, heartbreak and relationships,
“Gave you up ’bout 21 times
Felt those lips, tell me 21 lies, yeah
You’ll be the death of me
Love-lovin’ you could make Jesus cry.”
Although, her raspy singing voice is similar to Miley’s, Noah makes this song her own, with many people comparing her sound to Lana Del Rey’s.
The raindrop sound in the background is a bit distracting, but overall I enjoyed the song.
