When first putting on BUCK’s track “Hold On” I wasn’t sure what to think. It starts off with an orbiting synth and leads into vocals, but then introduces a variety of percussion. My first thought was Grimes and her early work with odd, somehow working instrumentals, but when the vocals hit I drew comparisons with Matty Healy of the 1975; the track, not quite in line with either artist but a mix with a certain originality. It might take a few listens for you to get into the song, but it’s an interesting one with all the elements. The music takes you through a weird, odd, but satisfying journey, while the lyrics express trying to figure out what’s wrong with his mind, turning to therapy, drugs, friends, all intertwined in a fucked up mind: “I can’t hold onto you anymore.”
