TOP 5 ELECTRONIC SONGS OF 2016

These decisions were made based on the whole team’s opinions and are in no particular order. 2016 was a great year for electronic music and we’re looking forward to what 2017 has in store.

Gryffin ft. Josef Salvat – “Heading Home”

Gryffin’s “Heading Home” featuring Josef Salvat represents two of the greatest elements of EDM: strong vocal catharsis and an anthemic drop. This track belongs in 2016’s biggest clubs, but begs an emotive energy from us that is more meaningful than your average dance hit. Reflecting on the dark, moodier wave on the genre, DJ Gryffin provokes a style of music that has hit the pinnacle of popularity in the last five years, but also includes highlights of inspiration from electronic music of the past.

Joachim Pastor – “Eternity”

Joachim Pastor is an electronic artist and producer from Paris, France. He is co-founder of the label Hungry Music. Eternity is a classic electronic song. It’s consistent beat and repetitive synth sounds make it a catchy, hypnotizing tune. Pastor is known for his pop and melodic influences combined with his electronic vibes. This is just straight smooth electronic music full of good sounds and consistent delivery.

Calvin Harris & Rihanna – “This Is What You Came For”

Yes its the song you heard on the radio and at every party, but for once that didn’t bother me. I didn’t even realize this was Rihanna at first, but her vocals bring this track alive and the hook and pre-hook have just he right amount of repetitiveness and catchiness. Calvin kept the production somewhat minimal to leave room for Rih to bounce over and in a sea of over-saturated EDM music, this stands out as an electronic groove that anyone can appreciate.

Calvin Harris – “My Way”

“My Way” by Calvin Harris was released on September 16th, 2016. It is an upbeat and shinny dance track that was hard to ignore this year as it could be heard blaring out of speakers and across radio waves since its release. The song features vocals by Harris and catchy drum beats the whole way through that has kept us dancing into the new year. The song peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart and number 24 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Flume ft. Little Dragon – “Take A Chance”

“Take A Chance” is a softer and more emotional take for Flume. The song features vocals by the lead singer of Swedish electronic band Little Dragon, Yukimi Nagano. Drawing you in with a sweet build up, the eventual drop of the beat will get you dancing like many of Flumes other major hits. “Take A Chance” is a part of the Australian producer’s second studio album “Skin” released on May 27th. The album received critical acclaim across the globe, and it marks another success for the growing electronic musician.
