In “Rendezvous”, Kronic takes a break from his usual electronic / trap tracks to bring us a summer radio hit.
The song begins with a smooth, soft, Justin Bieber styled intro. The vocals go up from there, right into a definite ‘Weeknd’ vibe. Throughout, Kronic and Grammy Award winner, Leon Thomas, complement each other so well, resulting in a track I think we will be hearing a lot this summer.
However, if we break this song down lyrically, we can see it is actually addressing quite a serious issue. Especially with the warmer weather approaching when people are sometimes a little more lenient with themselves; alcoholism.
The chorus is pretty hard – hitting, pertaining to what we can only assume is a conversation between a guy and his girlfriend;
“Let me share a secret / Girl, you’re showing off your weakness / Party every weekend / And you’re blacking out too frequent / This ain’t a rendezvous /…If you don’t love you / Who are you loyal to?”.
For some, this may seem like a regular thing to do; party like it’s 1999 until it’s 2999. For others, this is an all too real reality. Whether it’s realized by the person or not, their party habits have turned into their daily habits. Maybe to them they feel like badasses, anarchists to the conformist ideology of a “functional alcoholic”. Yup, it just got serious guys.
