London-based friends and roommates Megan Markwick and Lily Somerville formed IDER in their bedroom and arrived last year with their debut silken track “Sorry”. They went on to release debut EP “Gut Me Like An Animal” back in March which featured production from electro synth-pop princess Shura. On the 4-track EP, the pair explored the darkest edges of love with their brooding synth-pop songs.
After catching the attention of many including DJs and other online music publications, the North London duo returned in August with new single “Learn to Let Go”, their first release on new label home Glassnote Records. The track is a divine, aerial piece brought to life by the pair’s soaring twin vocals as well as a dreamy guitar line, glassy synths and softly thudding bass; a true breath of fresh air.
“The song is about self-acceptance. Finding inner confidence and freedom,” explains the duo. “”I spin in my yellow dress”, a lyric which came from nowhere in particular, has come to symbolize the meaning of the song.” / “Yellow universally represents courage, happiness and self-love.”
The visuals for the song perfectly embody these lyrics as the theme of freedom and the color yellow are at the center of the vibrant video. Directed by Diana Kunst, the video follows a group of friends exploring, messing around, having fun…simply celebrating life!
IDER are currently touring Europe until the beginning of December. We can’t wait to hear and see more from them in 2018!
