Emerging Minneapolis band Firebirdie has just released their surreal video for “Firecracker Racket.” Lead by Travis Lou Wavescorx and Jessica Grantham, the group does it all, producing and writing the entirety of their debut singles. The song itself explores the tumultuous experience of mental illness, and how difficult it can be to break free from the repetitive constraints of the cycle. Wavescorx notes that the track is designed to be circular, gaining gradual intensity to reflect the feeling of a panic attack. The entire track was originally written with one chord (F Major) and remained this way even in its fully produced, finished state. The video for “Firecracker Racket” is conceptually and visually stunning. It actually documents the birth of Grantham and Wavescorx’s daughter. In a carefully timed manner, the crew was able to sync the fireworks scene to Grantham going into labor. The female lead put her heart and soul into this work, even lip-syncing, dancing, and performing during her contractions. Showing commitment like no other, Firebirdie is one to watch out for in the near future.
