Joel Ansett returns with another one, called “Pure”. His leather vocal can hold down the verse on it’s own with its unique tone then sounds euphoric when stacked with harmonies leading into the hook section. Super mellow and beautiful rhodes piano chords carry emotional weight and bring the listener into a trance. There’s also this snare that totally made me think something was being dropped in the other room when I was listening with headphones. It’s these quirky production elements that make songs stand out to me.
This song is about missing the innocence of being young. Everything was simpler then and although we always wanted to be older, adults now just want to go back to simpler times. His sound somewhat reminds me of Justin Vernon at times, get lost in the beauty below.
“Pure” is track 4 of 12 of Joel’s new album “A Place I Knew Before” go stream that baby in full!
