Canadian singer-songwriter Kiesza is back! After the enormous popularity of her 2014 house-pop single ‘Hideaway’, she went on collaborate with a stunning array of famous names. Names like Skrillex, Diplo, and Duran Duran, to name a few. Tragically, her career was put on pause after a bad car crash in 2017. After taking a hiatus to recover, she’s back with her new single ‘When Boys Cry’.
Released under her own label, Zebra Spirit Tribe, ‘When Boys Cry’ is a fun and breezy little pop song. The lyrical matter champions the “empowerment of men to tap into their feminine power and allow themselves to be vulnerable emotionally”, as explained by Kiesza.
Produced by Chris Malinchak, ‘When Boys Cry’ shoots right out of the gate with a click-clacky beat and Kiesza’s clean and sing-songy vocals. The production is effortless and light, with weird airhorn and vocal samples. It sounds almost like an early M.I.A track. It works. It’s simple, elegant, and it’s a good song.
